The Korea Institute of Science and Technology Information (KISTI), in association with NVIDIA and OpenACC, will host a virtual GPU Hackathon starting August 25th and concluding September 1st, 2021. GPU Hackathons provide inspiring possibilities for scientists to accelerate their AI research or HPC codes under the guidance of expert mentors from KISTI, NVIDIA and global mentors from universities and industries in a collaborative environment.

The KISTI GPU Hackathon is a multi-day event designed to help teams of three to six developers accelerate their own codes on GPUs using a programming model, or machine learning framework of their choice. Multiple mentors assign for each team for the duration of the event. This Hackathon is open to everyone with the event limited to only 6 total teams. Additional Hackathons will be scheduled if there is high interest.

Event Format

KISTI GPU Hackathon will be in the local language and hosted online in the Korean Standard Time (KST) zone. Each team will be assigned to a virtual breakout room to work with mentors on their codes and will present reports (SCRUMS) on their progress to all participants in the main virtual meeting space daily. All communication will be done through Zoom, Slack and email.

Prerequisites

Teams are expected to be fluent with the code or project they bring to the event and motivated to make progress during the hackathon.

No advanced GPU skills are required, but teams are expected to know the basics of GPU programming and profiling at the event. A collection of GPU lectures, tutorials, and labs are available for all participants at no fee. Additionally, GPU programming workshop from NVIDIA and KISTI on the orientation day will help you kick start building your own knowledge. Please contact organizers for more information to help you prepare for the hackathon.

Compute Resources

Teams attending the event will be given access to the KISTI GPU clusters for the duration of the hackathon.
